Lane County Parole & Probation Renovation

Comprehensive Facility Upgrade

The Lane County Parole and Probation facility underwent a complete interior renovation of its 26,923 square-foot building, retaining the original shell. The renovation included extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades, exterior finish repairs, new windows, roof replacement, and site improvements.

Efficient and Quiet Systems

A key focus was implementing a highly efficient Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system, which kept construction costs down while providing effective climate control. To ensure privacy, ductwork was carefully arranged to minimize noise transfer between spaces. This involved longer duct paths and lining the ductwork with fiberglass board for sound absorption. Security-related systems, including a sally port for secure unloading, were also integrated into the design.

Collaborative Execution

The project required significant coordination with GMA Architects and structural engineers, particularly due to the extensive ductwork and additional equipment needed for the VRF system. Special attention was given to maintaining accessibility for maintenance, closing off ductwork in open office spaces, and adapting to different occupancy schedules across the building. Additionally, managing the controls sequence for gas heating in open office areas required innovative solutions to ensure occupant comfort. By reusing the existing air handling unit, we were able to combine it with the new VRF system to efficiently condition large areas of the building, maximizing the use of existing equipment.

This renovation successfully modernized the building with efficient and quiet systems while preserving its original structure. The project’s collaborative approach ensured seamless integration of advanced mechanical systems, enhanced security features, and thoughtful design solutions for occupant comfort and privacy.
