Obsidian Middle School

The Obsidian Middle School renovation project encompassed a range of critical upgrades aimed at aligning the HVAC systems with evolving space usage, improving overall building controls, and replacing outdated equipment that had surpassed its service life. A key aspect of the project was relocating the front office to enhance safety and security, which necessitated the reconfiguration of associated HVAC systems. The scope also included upgrades to boiler piping, air handling unit heating coils, and domestic water heating systems to optimize efficiency and control.

Our Expertise at Work

Systems West Engineers was awarded this project based on our extensive commissioning experience in Central Oregon and our established track record in the K-12 education sector. Our team’s unparalleled expertise in tackling complex engineering challenges uniquely positioned us to navigate the intricacies of this undertaking.

One of the project’s primary concerns was the integration of an outdated controls system. Compounded by existing issues within the school that fell outside our scope, this presented a multifaceted challenge. Demonstrating our commitment to excellence, we approached this project with a solutions-oriented mindset and commitment to serve our clients to the best of our ability by identifying and addressing these issues to ensure a seamless project outcome.

Another feat was the comprehensive air balancing performed throughout the entire facility. This undertaking required meticulous determination of optimal air set points, all while working around existing conditions. Our team’s ingenuity and dedication allowed us to overcome these obstacles, culminating in a finely tuned HVAC system that secures optimal comfort and functionality.

Results and Impact

The successful renovation of Obsidian Middle School stands as a testament to Systems West Engineers’ unwavering commitment to delivering top-tier solutions.
